The New York Times, May 25, 1917 – Editorial – The English government had committed to suffrage for women, and now a bill has passed the House of Commons essentially guaranteeing the right to vote for women. In order to vote, however, women must be over thirty years old. Nonetheless, England has adopted the principle that women have the right to vote. read clipping

 

The New York Times, May 30, 1917 – The National Woman’s Party asserts that passage of a Federal Suffrage Amendment is a “patriotic and constructive war measure to obtain that democracy in our own country that we are asking abroad.” Carrie Chapman Catt sends a letter to the National Woman’s Party asking them to stop the White House picketing because it is hurting the cause for suffrage. The suffrage delegation, who met with President Wilson earlier this month, believes he may support a Federal Suffrage Amendment, although Wilson did not commit to that. read clipping
