The New York Times, August 11, 1920 – A joint resolution on suffrage is introduced to both chambers of the Tennessee Legislature. The Speaker of the House had been regarded as pro-suffrage, but he says today that he will oppose ratification. Carrie Chapman Catt says there are still enough votes to ratify the Amendment, if the other legislators stick by their pledges. Alice Paul says the National Woman’s Party’s poll of the legislators shows that support for suffrage is eroding. read clipping
