The New York Times, July 18, 1920 – The non-partisan National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA), led by Carrie Chapman Catt, sends a letter to every member of the Republican National Committee saying that it will be a mistake for the Republican Party to rest on its laurels regarding suffrage. The women want action on suffrage in the Republican states of Connecticut and Vermont. read clipping

 

The New York Times, July 20, 1920 – The National Woman’s Party amasses five hundred purple, white, and gold banners to picket Warren G. Harding’s home, from which he is campaigning for president. Although Democrats are in the majority in Tennessee, Alice Paul wants Harding to urge the Republicans in the state to support suffrage. read clipping

The New York Times, July 20, 1920 – If the Federal Suffrage Amendment is not ratified soon, suffragists in Vermont may ask the US Supreme Court to overturn the Vermont governor’s earlier veto of presidential suffrage in Vermont. If successful, this will allow women in Vermont to vote in the presidential election. read clipping
