The New York Times, September 21, 1920 – Editorial – The editor of The Times compliments the wisdom of Carrie Chapman Catt for encouraging women to join the existing political parties, rather than forming their own political party. read clipping

 

The New York Times, September 22, 1920 – Front Page – The US Secretary of State dismisses claims that his proclamation of the Nineteenth Amendment is not valid. Meanwhile, in Connecticut, at a second special session called by the governor to act on the Suffrage Amendment, the Legislature ratifies it again. The governor has said he will certify the ratification this time. The Legislature also passes a series of bills allowing women to vote in November. One bill allows women to state they are over twenty-one years old when they register to vote, but it does not require them to reveal their actual age. read clipping

 

The New York Times, September 24, 1920 – The governor of Connecticut vetoes some of the voting bills passed by the Legislature. The suffragists in Connecticut claim the governor is making it difficult for women to vote in the state. read clipping
